This year, we've decided to get involved in Operation Christmas Child: a charity which sends shoe boxes full of Christmas presents overseas to less fortunate children. Some of the children who will be getting these shoe boxes may never have received a present before. This will make their Christmas very special.
We have filled two Christmas Child boxes with presents. Two girls will receive them at Christmas. I hope they like what we chose for them. I wish I could see their faces when they open their boxes!
Today, I made a video about Operation Christmas Child and our boxes. Would you like to watch it?
Do you do anything for charity at Christmas?
Author: James Moloney
Stars: Four out of five
Genre: Fantasy
Blurb: The newest boy at Mrs. Timmins's Home for Orphans and Foundlings awakes at first light with no name and no memory. But a strange girl who hides among the shadows of the orphanage tells him that a mysterious wizard's creation, the Book of Lies, holds the answers, and then gives him one clue: "Your name is Marcel."
With that knowledge, and the help of three new friends, Marcel begins a quest to find the truth about his real identity--a truth that is hidden in the Book of Lies. As Marcel learns more about his past, he realizes that truth can change at any moment and can be manipulated by anyone, and he begins to wonder if the old book's so-called magical truth might be the greatest lie of all.
Favourite Quote: “My fate is my own; my heart remains free. Not magic but wisdom reveals destiny.” -Book of Lies
Thoughts: This is a very exciting and confusing book. It kept me guessing at what would happen next. I've never been quite so confused by a story before, but that just made it all the more enjoyable.
I'm now off to go read the third book in this series (our library didn't have the second). I can't wait to see what happens next!
Have you read The Book of Lies? What did you think of it? What are you reading at the moment?
I've been doing NaNoWriMo since I was around ten. This is the first year I can do the adult version instead of the Young Writer's Program. This means I will be writing a novel of at least 50 000 words in 30 days.
I thought for a bit of fun I would share the summary of the story I am going to write.
When King Ryan accidentally kills one of the pack, the pack is determined to get revenge. King Ryan, foreseeing war, calls on the help of the most renowned spy in the kingdom, Midnight Mouse, to stop the pack and regain peace.
My story is called The Pack of Magma. Hopefully it will be a retelling of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, but as I have a hard time sticking to plots, it could end up being anything.
I always hated the story of Goldilocks and the Threes Bears, which is why I want to go and write a good version. I have never heard of anyone rewriting Goldilocks and the Three Bears before. It should be a lot of fun.
Are you doing NaNoWriMo this year? What are you writing?
Title: Incareran 2: Sapphique

Favourite Quote: I'm crazy, not stupid-Rix
Thoughts: When I got this book from the library, the first one wasn't there. I borrowed it anyway. It wasn't that hard to work out what was going on.
This book is unique. I like the idea of a world in a world and everything being illusions. I don't think I've ever read a book like it.
I will have to find the first book now! I can't wait to find out how it all started.
Have you read Sapphique? What did you think of it?
I have always wanted to be able to take amazing photos of cats, but sadly it turns out that cats aren't as easy to snap a photo of as you might think.
After taking heaps a failed photos...
After taking heaps a failed photos...
...I finally decided to go a watch a video to find out what I was doing wrong.
As soon as I finished watching, I grabbed my camera again and took some more photos. This time they turned out much better.
I played around with the shutter speeds, took some photos using the flash, tried to capture the cat's personalities better, and played around with the angles.
Gemma-Rose and I walked down to the park at the end of our road. I had my camera with me.
We headed over to the play equipment. Gemma-Rose decided to slide down the slippery dip. I snapped some photos of her as she flew down.
Gemma-Rose also wanted to play on the swing.
Soon we left the play equipment and headed over to the playing field.
Gemma-Rose lay down in the warm grass.
Suddenly, Gemma-Rose decided to run across the field as fast as she could.
Tired, Gemma-Rose pulled out the book Mum wrote and published, The Angels of Abbey Creek.
All too soon we had to go home. We had a great time at the park. I really enjoyed taking all these photos.
