Braving the Winter Cold
19:57"Who's going to walk the dog today?" Mum asks.
For a few seconds no one volunteers. It's cold outside and the wind is blowing hard. Everyone would much rather stay inside with the gas heater.
"I will," I eventually offer glumly.
"I'll join you!" Gemma-Rose bravely says.
We head off in search of warm clothes.
"You'll need gloves," Mum tells us.
"And I'd take a beanie if I were you," Imogen suggests. "I didn't take one yesterday and I regretted it."
"Scarves might also be in order," someone else adds.
Soon we're all kitted up. We look like we're going to the North Pole, but we're nice and warm.
Just as Gemma-Rose and I are about to go outside, Mum has a suggestion.
"Why don't you take your camera with you?" she asks.
I run to grab it. I should get some great shots. Our winter gear will be interesting props.
Finally, we head out the door and set off down the road to the bush tracks.
As we walk along, Gemma-Rose and I hunch down against the cold. The wind tries to get inside our coats and soon our cheeks are rosy.
Every so often I stop to take some photos.
After a few minutes of modeling for me, Gemma-Rose has an idea. "Can I borrow your camera?" she asks.
Hesitantly, I hand it over and Gemma-Rose become photographer and I have to pose for her.
I'm not used to being in front of the camera. I always feel awkward, but I still have a lot of fun.
Eventually I get my camera back, but there is a problem. I have no more power. I forgot to check my battery level before I left.
It doesn't matter though, we're getting rather cold. We hurry to finish our walk. It's nearly dinner time and we're hungry.
What is the weather like where you live? Are you awkward in front of the camera or are you a natural model like Gemma-Rose.

Really like the first photo! good on you for braving the cold, that photo was worth it!
ReplyDeleteThank you! That's my favourite photo too. I'm really glad Mum suggested I take the camera.
DeleteWhat awesome photos! You are truly talented behind the camera! By the way, when did you get braces? I remember having braces as a teen... they were truly annoying, I kept getting food stuck in them!
ReplyDeleteWith all my love from (much warmer!) Perth! See you in September! xx
Thank you so much!
DeleteThis is my second year of having braces. I got them in November 2013. I'm hoping to have them taken out later this year. They are annoying, but I'm looking forward to having nice teeth when they come off.
I'm looking forward to see you!
Brilliant shots, trying to capture a relaxed look is not easy!
ReplyDeleteYour mum and I are friends and although it is meant to be "summer" here in the UK it is currently grey and raining :-(
I cannot wrap my head around you guys having winter though, it makes my head spin :-)

Thank you! I'm really lucky that Gemma-Rose is an amazing model. She seems to have no problem posing, even in the cold.
DeleteIt is funny to here people on the other side of the world talking about summer when we're cold. I hope you get some real summer weather soon!
Great shots! I love your scarves.....did you all make them yourselves? I love to crochet & knit & I always notice the pretty hand-made goodies. I live in VA & right now, it's summertime for us.....pretty warm....in the mid 80s all this week.
ReplyDeleteYes we did make them. They're really warm and snugly. I also like to crochet and knit, but I don't do half as much as I would like to. I have a huge list of things I'd like to make, but I never get around to actually making them.
DeleteEnjoy your warm weather! I wish we could get some of it over here.
This is sooo weird! For me right now, we are dealing with 85 degree days and at this moment, a raging thunder and lightening storm! Isn't the world amazing?! :D
ReplyDeleteThe world is amazing! It's really cool that we can be having such different weathers at the same moment. It's also awesome that we can talk about it over the internet. Isn't the internet amazing?
DeleteOh yes it is! I love the blogging world! :D
ReplyDeleteGee it has been freezing here in Aussie hasn't it? I just love it! =D
ReplyDeleteGreat photos too!!

Thank you so much!
DeleteIt sure has been cold. I hope it warms up soon.
It's amazing to me the great seasonal differences between. Or there and southern hemispheres. In our winter (end of October through March) the thought of the months of June, July, August, September fills my heart with wonderful warm memories. Seeing you all bundled up this time of year can be shocking. I know I can be so egocentric...even when it comes to weather. I also noticed your dog is on a halt collar. We have one for our labradoodle but he still pulls until he gets hot and tired.
ReplyDeleteLove your pictures. And I enjoy your posts on photoshop and I inspirations.
Have a wonderful day.
